Charitable Giving
The parish of St Bartholomew and St Nicholas continues to give to the following charities:
Church Missionary Society (£400). CMS is an international organisation committed to evangelistic mission to many parts of the world, working to see our world transformed by the love of Jesus. We believe that by making disciples, resourcing leaders and transforming communities we make our unique contribution to God’s mission. http://www.cms-uk.org/
Practical Action (£400) uses technology to challenge poverty, working with poor women and men around the globe. This involves using technology for agriculture production, construction of houses and schools, fisheries, livestock, food processing, information and communication, water and sanitation, transport infrastructure as well as many others. http://practicalaction.org
BibleLands (£400) supports partner organisations that provide healthcare for some of the Middle East’s poorest people. They support schools and vocational training centres that allow children and young people from disadvantaged families to gain a good education and become able to earn a living. www.biblelands.org.uk
Bansang Educational Appeal (£400). Annabel Kerr, a member of our congregation, went out to the Gambia in West Africa to work with the isolated, third world hospital charity that was originally founded by Anita Smith in1992. On her return Annabel, she set up an educational appeal and this is the charity we support http://bansangeducationalappeal.org/
The National Churches Trust (£100) is the only national, independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and supporting church buildings of historic, architectural and community value across the UK. nationalchurchestrust.org
Remap(£400) is a national charity working through local groups of skilled volunteers to help people with disabilities achieve independence and a better quality of life. They make or modify equipment when nothing suitable is available through mainstream sources. Items are tailor-made to be suitable for individual needs and to make a real difference to people’s ability to rise to a particular challenge and achieve something not otherwise possible for them. www.remap.org.uk
Christian Aware (£400)is an international and ecumenical movement aiming to develop multi-cultural understanding, raising awareness of the gifts and needs of God's people everywhere. CA specialises in promoting international visits and exchanges between Christians in the UK and churches around the world. www.christiansaware.co.uk
Church Urban Fund (£400) are Christians tackling poverty in England. They do this by giving time and money, action and prayer. We bring the Church together, to support Christians called to work with the poorest and most marginalised in England, transforming lives. www.cuf.org.uk
Friends of Essex Churches (£100) is a registered charity set up in 1951 to raise money for grants to repair and restore Christian churches and chapels in Essex and the five London boroughs formerly part of the county: Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. Action for Family Carers (£400) formerly known as Maldon Carers, was founded in 1989 and is a registered charity providing support and information to unpaid Carers. http://www.affc.org.uk/
Chess (£400) stands for Churches Homeless Emergency Support Scheme. Chelmsford CHESS seeks to relieve homelessness and related hardship and distress amongst single adults in Chelmsford and Essex, through the provision of support services and temporary accommodation that helps them move on in their lives. http://www.chelmsfordchess.org/
The J's Hospice (£400) provides respite and hospice care in Essex for 18 to 40 year olds with life-limiting conditions. The services include nursing and end of life care, respite care, psychosocial care and bereavement support. We want young adults to have the best possible quality of life, as independently as they can. www.thejshospice.org.uk
